It was amazing to spend time with Master Corporal Shane Wilson - Retired and Corporal Ian R. after our shoot.

Master Corporal Shane Wilson who recently retired was on his cross Canada trip when Corporal Ian R. introduced us and told me bout Wilson’s story. Wilson a member of CSOR now retired was travelling to find his new purpose while dealing with the memories and events of the past. After a quick chat with Wilson we instantly connected on many a thing from a good single malt scotch, music and art to how we need better systems in place for our vets. I am ever grateful for Ian’s introduction and am honoured to know them both.

Knowing my schedule for the day I allotted time for us to hang out “safely” and so we ended up at the Irish heather a great Irish pub in Gastown, Vancouver. With a couple of drams in hand we picked up where we left off at the shoot, chatting about their military past, allowing themselves to be vulnerable while expressing their current place in the world and their dreams of the future.

Was so honoured to be able to share a dram or Laphroaig with them and hear their stories, I look forward to our reunion.
